Adding MIME types

On Windows subscriptions it is possible to add extra MIME types (file extensions) to your plan in order for your websites to work correctly.  This feature is not available on Linux plans.  To create a mime type for, say for example, the .mp4 extension, you will first need to discover the mime type.  A quick search on Google for mp4 MIME type reveals the answer:

 

video/mpeg

 

Once you have the MIME type, please login to the control panel, for details on how to do this please see the following link:

Once logged in please follow these steps:

 

  1. Click on the domains link/tab/icon(globe).
  2. Click on the manage hosting/control panel link corresponding to the domain name. Click the domain name if this is not present.
  3. Click on the websites and domains tab, if you cannot see this please skip to the next step.
  4. Click on the Virtual directories icon (it may be within the show advanced operations section).
  5. Click on the MIME types tab.
  6. Click Add MIME type.
  7. Add the desired extension into the relevant field, Leave the drop down as custom and enter the custom MIME type in the preceding text box.
  8. Please click OK to confirm.
