Emails sent to me are being delayed

On our systems we use a spam reduction feature call grey listing.  This works by asking the sending mail server to resend the email that was last sent.  In practice, this reduces the amount of spam by about 80% however there are side effects to this.  Although most mail servers are configured to resend emails after 15 minutes, some mail servers are configured to re-send over a longer period.  This can mean delays of a few hours in some rare cases.

On some of our shared plans, virtual and dedicated plans it is possible to disable greylisting.  Unfortunately due to the way the technology works on the Windows operating system, it is not possible to disable the greylisting feature on Windows shared subscriptions.

For Linux shared client please follow these steps:

  1. Login to the eHosting control panel (www.ehosting.com/signin)
  2. Click on the subscriptions drop down (top right) and select the appropriate hosting plan
  3. Click on the home/domains tab
  4. Click on the domain name or domain icon, then domain name
  5. Click on the mail tab or mail accounts icon
  6. Click on the 'Change settings' or 'Settings' button
  7. Untick the greylisting feature and then click OK to confirm the change.
